How it works

The health of the plant is essential for it to perform and withstand the stress it endures from surface preparation and play. Beneath any sports turf pitch cover a micro-climate or micro-environment is created for the grass plant to grow in.

The wrong type of covering material will prevent essential ultra violet rays from reaching the plant and cause a 'sweating' effect by stopping air circulation. This reduction in levels of sunlight reaching the grass plant prevents photosynthesis from taking place, therefore making the plant very weak.

Lack of air circulation causes a rise in humidity or 'sweating' and, in turn, makes the plant prone to disease and the turf 'greasy' when the pitch cover is first removed.

The Climate Cover System has overcome these challenges, providing a pitch cover solution that:

  • allows over 70% of the ultra violet rays available to reach the plant (independently tested), enabling healthy grass growth when covered for short or long periods
  • helps prevent the 'sweating' effect. The Climate Cover System offers the ONLY 100% waterproof turf covering system, which still allows the plant to breathe
  • allows over 30% of water vapour to escape through the cover due to air circulation, thus reducing humidity, stale air and a grass plant disease
  • has been tested to comply with various European Norms - notably ENV343 for resistance to Water Penetration (Class 3) & Breathability (Class 2&3).
  • can be kept down for weeks to months and can also be used as a germination cover.
