Lancashire County Cricket Club stocks up on Climate Cover Systems ahead of 2011 season...
Lancashire County Cricket Club has taken delivery of seven new Climate Cover System™ ground sheets to help protect its playing surfaces during the 2011 season. With a full set of the covers having been in use at the club’s main Old Trafford ground for some four years, the latest consignment of covers will be used as the team tours its outgrounds this summer with work underway to turn the square at Old Trafford.
The new covers will be mainly used at Liverpool, which is set to host five county games while the main ground is out of use, as well as at Blackpool and Southport. Matt Merchant, Head Groundsman at the club, explains why they have chosen the Climate Cover System once again:
“We’ve been using the Climate Cover System at Old Trafford for several years now, and it’s proven its worth time and again. Not only are the covers lightweight and easy to handle but they perform; as they’re breathable we feel confident that we can put the covers down and leave them for a few days to protect the pitch without the worry of the surface quality being compromised. Previous covers made in a heavier plastic material would turn the grass bright yellow if left on for more than 24 hours, so with the typically changeable North West climate it’s a real bonus to be able to leave the covers on without the risk of this happening.”
