Climate Cover announces competition winners

Climate Cover would like to thank all the clubs that took part in our recent competition, run in association with NatWest CricketForce.

Two £150 vouchers, which can be used towards purchase of a Clmiate Cover System, were won by Bradford & Bingley CC and Disley CC.

The correct answers to the questions are as follows:

1) Why is it important to allow sunlight to pass through a ground cover and reach the grass plant?
The wrong type of covering material will prevent essential ultra violet rays from reaching the plant. This reduction in levels of sunlight prevents photosynthesis from taking place making the plant very weak.

2) Give two reasons why air circulation is vital to the grass plant and a cricket pitch?
Lack of air circulation causes a rise in humidity or 'sweating' and, in turn, makes the plant prone to disease and the turf becomes 'greasy' when the cover is first removed.

3) How many Groundsmen does it take to pull on a four pitch Climate Cover System?
One
